Today in Abuja, the President of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, His Excellency, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu announced the decision of the Center to extend its small grants program to women living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
He made the pronouncement today when the Management of the Center played host to the National Coordinator of the Association of Women Living with Hiv/aids in Nigeria (ASWHAN), Mrs. Esther Hindi and her team.
According to our President, beneficiaries of our small grants program, the U-Fund for Women from ASWHAN shall be announced on March 08, 2024 during the 2024 Ugwumba Women’s Conference, an event being organized by the Center in commemoration of the annual International Women’s Day.
In case you are not aware, ASWHAN is the umbrella body of support groups of Women Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria with over 850 support groups registered under it across the country. It advocates for the recognition of positive women’s rights in Nigeria and seeks to put in place comprehensive HIV and AIDS prevention, care, and support services for them.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Director of the Center, Mr. Remy Chukwunyere informed that this year, the Center is determined to empower 500 rural women selected from across the 36 State plus the FCT.
According to Mr. Remy Chukwunyere, “since rural women who are living with HIV and AIDS are worst hit by the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria today, we are therefore obligated to include them as beneficiaries of the U-Fund for Women.”
Mrs. Ijeoma Stella Onah, a multimedia communications expert and gender advocate who supports women living with HIV/AIDS joined the ASWHAN team on the visit.
To God be the glory!
