#UEC2021 Open Day with Remy

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen and thank God it’s another Friday! We have come to gladden your weekend and guess what? On Wednesday, September 29, 2021 by 12 noon, we are going to unveil the application portal for the 2021 Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge!

It’s an amazing news, right? For us, it is so amazing because, the challenge this year is designed to empower about 2,000 Nigerian youths and women from across the 36 State plus the FCT. As you already know, through the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge, over 5,000 young entrepreneurs and innovators in Nigeria have been supported in launching out and/or scaling up their enterprises between 2018 and 2020.Unfortunately, every year, reports from confirmed sources show that the rate of unemployment in Nigeria has remained unabated.

Currently, it stands at an alarming 33.3%.To us, this is so worrisome because millions of Nigerian youths are out there roaming the streets with creative ideas but unfortunately lack the knowledge on how to turn those ideas into profitable business ventures. Another twist to this is that, even those who have the knowledge, lack the financial support to take off.

That was why in 2018, we launched the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge to be able to empower young people in Africa turn their creative ideas, skills and passions into scalable business ventures. The project, which holds annually is a business pitching and grant competition that challenges the creativity, critical thinking and the audacity of our young people to survive through innovation.

The Call for Applications will be announced during this Open Day with Remy Chukwunyere, the Executive Director of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, scheduled for Wednesday, September 29, 2021 by 12 noon WAT.
