#UEC2020: Bilkisu Garba speaks on the Feedback Series

Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon and welcome to the Feedback Series! We are glad that Bilkisu Garba, our top 2020 #UgwumbaFellow and #RebrandNigeriaAmbassador shall take the first shot on the Feedback Series. She deserves all the accolades from you because she worked so hard to win the coveted prize at the highly contested 2020 Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge.

Bilkisu Garba will always smile at you when you describe her as a goal getter and passionate creative… She is an Upper Distinction graduate of Architecture from the Kano University of Science and Technology, Kano state. She later proceeded to Ahamadu Bello University, Zaria for her second degree, also in Architecture.

After working on construction sites for a few years, she went further to earn a Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration and started working in a renowned interior design firm based in Abuja in 2016. It was in the same year that she started developing interest in Sustainable Interior Design and its practices in Nigeria.

In 2017, she launched two start ups, a building design and finishing company called Revamp Charette Ltd, which she co-owns and The Upcycle Architect (TUPA), a social enterprise that uses primarily solid waste generated from construction sites to produce spectacular furniture and furnishing pieces for interior spaces.

Within 3 years of founding TUPA, Bilkisu has been able to promote a not-so-popular movement in Nigeria called UPCYCLING! Through her brand, she has been able to build a solid team of green designers and environmentalists, create a functional structure for courses on Sustainable Interior Design and Creative Upcycle. She has taught over 725 young people and women these courses and many of them have become successful in their businesses today.

The Upcycle Architect has also produced countless eco-conscious, functional and durable products all from ‘waste’ materials. All these and more earned her the 2020 Africa Green Female Award from the Eleven Eleven Twelve Foundation.

She has a mini MBA from the International Finance Corporation, a Certificate of Achievement in; Sustainable Interior Design (UGreen, Brazil); Upcycling: From Green Ideas to Running a Business (MINCA, Brazil); Upcycling: The New Economy (with the International Institute for Creative Design and US Embassy in Abuja).

Bilkisu enjoys writing (she has 4 unpublished journals) and inventing her own style of cooking creative dishes.

What an impressive profile, did you say? Yes, that’s true and we are sure you would join us as she takes the first shot on the feedback series tomorrow, December 16, 2020.
