The Owerri Edition

Good morning, great people of Nigeria! We are glad to welcome you into this wonderful day, to the glory of God!!

Permit us to talk about the first edition of the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge, which took place in Owerri, Imo State on May 24, 2019 at the West Brook Hotels, Owerri.

This was our very first project after the transition of Ezihe Foundation into the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa because of the urgent need to increase the scope of its activities, beyond Imo State and Nigeria.

The Enterprise Challenge, initially sounded like a joke to those who heard about it, possibly because, the model was alien to them. The Management of the Center decided to test the model in Imo State and therefore made it exclusively for young entrepreneurs in the State between 18 and 40 years.

Surprisingly, over 300 youths (both male and female) applied and were admitted into the two days Boot Camp that seemed like the “Lagos Business School”, according to Ezinne Nwakuba, one of the participants.

During the preliminary pitching, the ideas that were put before us were so amazing that selecting the top 10 finalists was a challenge.

At the grand finale, major stakeholders from Corporate Affairs Commission, NAFDAC, SON, Sterling Bank, Industrial Training Fund, etc were in attendance to present the “Ease of Doing Business Policies” of the Federal Government as it concerned them.

At the end of the final pitching competition, our star prize winners emerged as follows:

a)Innocent Unachukwu, CEO of GreenBox Africa (1st Prize of N500K)

b)Ezinne Nwakuba, CEO of Negs Honey Empire (2nd Prize of N300K), and

c)Postmus Osuji, CEO of Golden Farms Enterprise (3rd Prize of N200K)

There were also consolation prizes of N50K each for the 4th to 10th top finalists.

Since then, those who participated in the first edition numbering over 300 people have continued to build their startups and grow their SMEs, thereby contributing to the economic development of the country, Nigeria.

The Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge is a job creation program that has continued to create job and access to finance opportunities for youths across the country.

Meanwhile, the call for applications for the 3rd edition is still on. If you are interested, please, visit now to apply before the October 31 deadline.
