On Monday, December 06, 2021 at the grand finale of the 2021 Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge in Abuja, three young Nigerians whose business ideas were selected by the judges received one million naira (N1m) grant each from the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa.
The three best startups included an automatic change over meter with remote control developed by Godwin Alomaja; a non-irritating perfume company founded by Kedei Ibiang and Scoot Delivery, a logistics company that uses bicycles founded by Fortune Obieze.
Addressing the audience at the event, which attracted the participation of some Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including His Excellency, Senator Rochas Okorocha, the former Governor of Imo State and Distinguished Senator Obinna Ogba, the Senate Committee Chairman on Youth and Sports Development, the President and Founder of the Center, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu informed that he gets motivated to do more for the youths whenever he sees the beneficiaries of their programs share their success stories.
In his speech, the Chief Guest of Honour, His Excellency, Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha declared that when youths identify and begin to pursue their passions, that there will be no more unemployment in the country. He therefore called on the youths to make use of the training and financial support they receive from the Ugwumba Leadership Center to better their lives.
Also speaking, Senator Obinna Ogba, who was the Special Guest of Honour announced that he was surprised at the magnitude of impacts the Center has already made in the lives of youths and women in Nigeria. He used the opportunity to call for a partnership with the Center in order to empower the people of his constituency.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, HRH Othman Bilyaminu Usman, the Emir of Dass once again, congratulated Ugwumba Uche Nwosu for his consistency towards the empowerment of Nigerian youths, not minding their religions, their tribes, status and even political affiliations.
Presenting the event overview, Mr. Remy Chukwunyere, the Executive Director of the Center informed that this year, 520 applications were received from across the 36 states and the FCT.
