University of Abuja and Ugwumba hold Youth Leadership Clinic

Today in Owerri, the Abuja Leadership Centre, TETFund’s Centre of Excellence in Public Governance and Leadership, University of Abuja in partnership with the Ugwumba Leadership Center is organizing a Youth Leadership Clinic for secondary school students in Imo State.

The Youth Leadership Clinic is a mentoring program designed by the University of Abuja to empower school prefects and best students from both public and private secondary schools across the country.

According to late Prof. Chinua Achebe, the bane of Nigeria’s development is bad leadership. Therefore, the aim of this leadership program is to prepare our youths, especially those who already have leadership positions in the Secondary Schools to actually become the leaders of tomorrow.

The VIPs expected at the Owerri event, which is the maiden edition of the Clinic at the State level are His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State; Prof. Abdul-Rasheed N’Allah, the Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja; Prof. Philip Afaha, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and Director, Abuja Leadership Centre.

Masters and PhD students of the Centre scheduled to mentor the participants include: H.E Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, former Chief of Staff, Imo State Government House and President of the Ugwumba Leadership Center; Bar. Steve Asimobi, former Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor; Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, National President, National Association of Academic Technologists and Mr. Remy Chukwunyere, former Director General, Imo State Directorate for Employment and now Executive Director of the Ugwumba Leadership Center.

About 200 students selected from 25 secondary schools in the Owerri Municipal Council are expected for the leadership clinic holding today at the West Brook Hotels, New Owerri, Imo State.
