Today on the Leadership Show, our audience went away with so many important lessons while we discussed on the theme: “Raising Financially Independent Women” with Rashidat Adekeye.
If you were not able to join us live, do not worry, we have the link to the video here for you to replay and learn from the conversation.
Meanwhile, a few of the takeaways are here for you…
When asked what she teaches her mentees as a coach, she said…
“I teach my women how to start, build and grow their business in the online space. I teach them how to build credibility and grow their personal brands by applying their storytelling skills. That’s how I get buyers attracted to me since there are other competitors, out there”.
When asked how she launched here business as a stay-at-home mum, who resigned from her 9 to 5 job, she said….
“I had to resign from my job to be able to take of my kids. It was not easy for me at all. Even when I wanted to go back to work, no organization was willing to employ a young lady that has children to take care of…. So, out of that frustration, I had to learn how to import and sell jewelries online. So, I started the business with just fifteen thousand naira (N15,000) and my smart phone. Those I have mentored now believe that it is possible to stay at home and make money, just with their internet access and smart phones.
Her advice for those who want to quit their 9 to 5 jobs and establish their own businesses…
“Please, before you quit your 9 to 5 job, make sure that you have a side business or plan towards setting up by saving for about 6 months. You also need to learn the basics of the trade you want to establish and lastly, if it is not necessary to leave the job, don’t quit. Your business and your job can co-exist until quitting your job becomes inevitable.
On how education can affect selling online, she said…
“Even if you cannot speak English, you should use your local language.. Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, etc while recording your videos and hire a Social Media Assistant to help you upload the content. Illiteracy should not be a barrier anymore because, there are those that understand your language, so target them or alternatively, you can use pigin English, which is more common to everyone.”
Oh woow, the conversation was fantastic and highly interactive as we had questions and comments from the audience who joined us live.
