Vulnerable women in Nigeria receive respite from Ugwumba Foundation

As part of its objectives of empowering women across the country, the Ugwumba Leadership Center on Thursday, March 28, 2024 announced that it would support 500 vulnerable women in Nigeria with its small grants under the U-Fund for Women Initiative.

This cheering news was released by the Executive Director of the Center, Mr. Remy Chukwunyere while speaking at the UN Women’s Economic Empowerment Summit for ASHWAN and other marginalized groups in Nigeria.

Speaking through his Executive Director, the President of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, His Excellency, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu said: “Out of the 500 vulnerable women who shall receive our small grants this year, 100 of them shall be selected from the Association of Women Living with Hiv/aids in Nigeria (ASWHAN) and other marginalized groups. Not only the grants, we want to partner with the UN Women, UNAIDS and other stakeholders to know what more we can do for these vulnerable women.”

Our Executive Director, Mr. Chukwunyere further informed the audience that about 20 of these women living with HIV/AIDS, who are in business are currently undergoing a digital skills training program delivered in partnership with ImpactHer Foundation.

According to him, “there is no better way to inspire inclusion than to empower women to begin to operate in the digital space and to increase their access to finance”.

The UN Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mrs. Beatrice Eyong commended the Center for its support to the women, so far and said, she is looking forward to a future collaboration.

Once again, Happy International Women’s History Month to Nigerian Women!
