Royal Danish Ambassador meets with President of the Ugwumba Leadership Center in Abuja

Today in #Abuja, the President of the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu was received by His Excellency, Sune Krogstrup, the Ambassador of Royal Danish Embassy in Nigeria in a high-level partnership meeting.

Addressing the Ambassador, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu said: “Your Excellency, we are here to ask you to become a part of our leadership center, which I founded in 2018 out of my heart desires to contribute to human capacity development in Africa. As a young man, I passed through a lot while I was growing up. If not for God, hard work and my determination to succeed, I would not be sitting here with you today. So, based on my experience, I discovered that we have millions of talented youths in Nigeria but lack of #training, #funding and #mentoring is the reason why the #unemployment rate has refused to go down.”

In his response, the Ambassador said: “We appreciate your contributions to the development of Nigeria, especially working with youths and women, who are key priorities for us. Your Rebrand Nigeria Campaign is a very good initiative because, in Europe, we have heard a lot of negative stories about Nigerians but the story is different whenever our people come to Nigeria.

During our outreach programs, where we invite Danish investors to come and do business in Nigeria after sharing the amazing business opportunities here with them, most of them are reluctant to come because of the ugly narratives but the good news is that those who finally invested in Nigeria are grateful for it.

We shall do our best to connect your organization to the network of Danish companies operating in Nigeria and to see how they can do business with your young entrepreneurs.”

The Ambassador further advised that the Government and other stakeholders in Nigeria should focus more on #jobcreation since the high unemployment rate is one of the major causes of the insecurity in the country and illegal migration into Europe.

Earlier in his introductory remarks, Mr. Remy Chukwunyere, the Executive Director of the Center congratulated the Ambassador for being one of the organizers of the 2021 #NordicNigeriaConnect in Lagos, which was a huge success.

He said that the leadership of the center came on the visit to familiarize with him and to explore future collaboration opportunities with the embassy, Danish agencies and organizations.

He equally used the opportunity to announce that the Center has impacted on the lives of over 10,000 youths and women in Nigeria through the Center’s signature programs, such as the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge; the Ugwumba Women Development Academy; the Rebrand Nigeria Campaign and The Leadership Show.

To God be the glory,
